After the Keuka sank, her masts were sticking above the waterline, which created a navigation hazard. So Ray Hamilton, a local boatyard owner, dynamited them off. Some time in the 1960's several timbers were brought up by a local diver and stored in a garage until this year. In the l970's Michigan passed a law that made it illegal to salvage shipwrecks but up until that time, scuba divers collected much of the old ship. All that is left is a skeleton of the old ship and it is now a favorite haunt of scuba enthusiasts. The decoys displayed below are made from the wood of the Keuka. The color is the natural state of the wood.
